Fireflight

Fireflight is a Christian rock band with a purpose. “For Those Who Wait” and “Unbreakable” have been two of Fireflight’s major anthems that prove an inspiration.

“We write from our personal experiences, and the experiences friends, family and fans have shared with us,” Dawn Michele, lead singer said.

The band formed in the spring of 2000 in a town outside of Orlando, Fla., according to Michele.

“We got a great response to our first album, The Healing of Harms (in 2006), but our exposure and support has increased exponentially since the release of our last two albums, Unbreakable (2008), and For Those Who Wait (2010),” Michele said.

Fireflight has a wide variety of influences including Foo Fighters, 30 Seconds to Mars, Blindside and various 80’s artists.

The band has been able to perform “all over the United States, and Germany, Finland, Switzerland, Holland, Croatia, and Puerto Rico,” Michele said. “We’ve performed with countless bands including Switchfoot, Skillet, Disciple, Thousand Foot Krutch and Hawk Nelson.”

Michele said the band is looking forward to its future.

“We are currently writing our next album, and plan for it to be released early next year,” Michele said.

Band members include:

Dawn Michele-lead vocals
Adam McMillion-drums
Glenn Drennen-guitar
Wendy Drennen-bass
Justin Cox-guitar

How did you come up with the name Fireflight?

We made it up at the last minute before our very first show. We couldn't think of anything else so we just ran with it, and it stuck.

Who are the members of your band? Are they all original and what do they play?

All members are original except for our brand new drummer.
Dawn Michele- lead vocals
Adam McMillion-drums
Glenn Drennen- guitar
Wendy Drennen- bass
Justin Cox- guitar

How and when did you get your start?

We started in the spring of 2000, in a small town outside of Orlando, FL. Glenn felt a call to pursue music and he and his wife Wendy started searching for other players. He knew Justin from high school, and one day Justin walked into the music store where he was working, so he asked if he would be interested. He was, and so they started practicing together. I graduated in the same class as Glenn's younger brother and when they saw me sing at a graduation service they approached me afterwards to see if I would sing for the band. Adam joined us a few months ago, after our long-time drummer Phee Shorb left to pursue a speaking minsitry.

Have you had formal music training?

I took vocal lessons with a formally trained coach when I was younger, and more recently have worked with contemporary vocal coaches Mark Goff, Diane Sheets, and Jason Catron.

Who are your influences?

We listen to a wide variety of music, from such as foo fighters, 30 seconds to Mars, and Blindside, all the way to 80's Hair Metal bands.

What artists are you currently listening to?

Blindside, Foo fighters, Jessie J

How did you know what type of music you wanted to play?

We are all big rock fans.

Who writes your music and how do you get your ideas for the songs?

We all write collectively, each person contributes. We write from our personal experiences, and the experiences friends, family, and fans have shared with us.

What has been the band’s biggest success?

Being nominated for a Grammy.

What inspires you to keep your music going?

God has rescued me from the depths of despair, and I want everyone to  know how much God loves them, and experience His help in their lives.

What was the most interesting experience you’ve had in your career?

Being up in the NBC building in LA when an earthquake hit a few years ago. We don't get those kind of events in our part of the country.

Where have you toured? Who were you able to perform with?

All over the United states, and Germany, Finland, Switzerland, Holland, Croatia, and Puerto Rico. We've performed with countless bands including Switchfoot, Skillet, Disciple, ThousandFootKrutch, Hawk Nelson etc.

What is favorite venue?

Christmas Rock Night, Gevelsburg, Germany.

Do you prefer performing in front of small or large crowds?

We've always fancied ourselves to play arena rock, so we prefer large crowds.

What was the response to your first album?

We got a great response to our first album The Healing of Harms, but our exposure and support has increased exponentially since the release of our last two albums, Unbreakable, and For Those Who Wait.

What are your future plans?

We are currently writing our next album, and plan for it to be released early next year.

What do you do outside of being in the band?

I love to cook, and watch movies, and hang out with friends and family.
