One Night Only

One Night Only is an ‘80s pop-rock influenced band originally from Helmsley, Yorkshire in England. They were inspired by bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Blink 182, and decided to “put some music up on Myspace.” This created popularity from different record labels.

“We signed a record deal and started to make an album,” George Craig, the lead singer of One Night Only said in a recent interview. “Was pretty amazing really as we were only 16 at the time!

“First ever gig we did, (we did) not have a name and the promoter just used ‘One Night Only.’ It sort of stuck from there.”

Their popularity spread throughout the U.K. soon after the release of their single, “Say You Don’t Want It” and began touring with some of their favorite artists, such as NERD. The band’s biggest success has been their new album.

“Making the second album, we had been under a lot of pressure from the record company to make a copy of the 1st album,” Craig said. “We ended up making a record that we felt represented where we wanted to go as opposed to where we were at the time. We are very proud of it.”

The band said they like performing in the United States.

“We fitted in nicely,” Craig said. “It’s our kinda place and people are amazing. We would like to be here for a very, very long time.”

The band has released two albums, Started A Fire and their self-titled, One Night Only. The second is not available in the U.S. yet. They released “Can You Feel It” for the 125th Anniversary of Coca-Cola, which has become an international hit. Craig said their goal is to release the second album and tour a lot.

Band members include:

George - Guitar and vocals
James - Drums
Jack - Keys
Mark - Guitar
Dan - Bass

Where is the band from originally? How did the band form?

We are all from Helmsley in Yorkshire. We formed form meeting at school and deciding to start a band together.

How did you come up with the name One Night Only?

At our first ever gig we did not have a name and the promoter just used "One Night Only", it sort of stuck from there.

Who are the members of your band? Are they all original? Where are they from?

George - guitar and vocals, James - drums, Jack - keys, Mark - guitar, Dan - bass. The only non original member is James who joined when our original drummer Sam left. We are all from Helmsley.

How did you get your start?

We basically put some music up on Myspace and lots of record labels got pretty excited, then we signed a record deal and started to make an album, was pretty amazing really as we were only 16 at the time!

Who are your influences? Have you been able to contact or play with these artists?

We like all sorts of the music, some of our favorite artists are The Beatles, The Stones, The Stone Roses, Blink 182, The Strokes, the list could go on forever really!!! We have played with some of the artists we love, for example we played a show with NERD the other week!

How did you know what type of music you wanted to play? Have you played other music genres?

We just plug in and play, the results are always pretty natural, we don't limit ourselves by thinking we have to write or adhere to a specific genre, we just do what feels honest at the time.

Where do you get your ideas for the songs you write?

Life, love, happiness, sadness, loss, good, bad..... All the usual things that mean something.

What is your favorite instrument, and why?

My 60's gretsch..... It sounds like the end of the world and the beginning all at the same time, its a special guitar.

If you could play in any arena in the world, what would it be?

The Rose Bowl in L.A. We love the USA and want to tour here lots. That venue looks amazing and U.S. girls are sooooooo hot!

In a perfect world, what band past or present would warm up for you?

The Beatles Circa Rubber Soul

What has been the band’s biggest success?

Probably making the second album, we had been under a lot of pressure from the record company to make a copy of the 1st album, we ended up making a record that we felt represented where we wanted to go as opposed to where we were at the time. We are very proud of it.

What was the most interesting experience you’ve had on the road? Has that affected your music at all?

I don't think I should answer this one, I will tell you when we meet.... It changed everything!!!!

Have you encountered any cultural differences coming to the US? And if so, what are they? And how have you dealt with them?

No we fitted in nicely, It's our kinda place and the people are amazing. We would like to be here for a very very long time.

How many albums do you have out?

2, although the second is not available in the U.S. yet.

What was the response to your first album?

Our 1st album was a pretty big hit in the U.K. so I suppose the response was pretty good.

What are your future plans?

We want to tour lots and release our 2nd album in the U.S.
